About the Training

The Villages of Indiana, Inc. announces an upcoming Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) cohort to begin on November 1, 2017 at The Villages Office, 1605 Adler Circle, Suite A, Portage. TAC is a BEST PRACTICE standardized, manualized curriculum developed by The Center for Adoption Support and Education in collaboration with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and national experts in the field of child welfare, adoption and mental health. TAC is a 12 session (72 hours) competency-based training program followed by a six month case consultation program for licensed mental health clinicians and child welfare workers who provide pre- and post-adoption services to prospective adoptive parents, birth parents, adopted persons, and adoptive kinship families. The training engages students in clinical knowledge and skill building.

Topic areas include:
•Clinical Issues in Planning, Preparing for and Support Adoption
•Clinical Issues in Providing Therapeutic Services: Grief, Loss, Separation and Identity
•Trauma and Brain Neurobiology
•Clinical Issues in Providing Therapeutic Services: Attachment
•Adoptive Family Formation, Integration and Developmental Stages
•Openness in Adoption and Birth Family Culture
•Race and Ethnicity
•Adopted Adolescents and Identity Formation

The long term goals of the TAC training are to expand the access of adoption competent services provided by mental health and child welfare professionals to prospective and adoptive parents and adopted individuals which support stability and reduce rates of adoption disruption and dissolution; and to strengthen the post adoption services offered by the mental health and child welfare systems in Indiana.
For additional information on the TAC program, please contact Deborah Jasper, LCSW at djasper@villages.org or by calling 800-874-6880.
